Every Knee Will Bow

“Every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will confess allegiance to me.” Isaiah 45:23b

For the Scriptures say, "'As surely as I live,' says the LORD, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will confess and give praise to God.'" Romans 14:11

At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10,11

Recently, I read an article of a public figure, an atheist, who was asked what he would do if when he died, discovered that God actually exists. He boldly and arrogantly proclaimed that he would stand in front of God and yell at Him and ask Him about war and poverty and childhood cancer, etc…

Now, I could see how someone who doesn’t know the God of the Bible, who lovingly created human beings and then sent his son to die for them after they turned their backs on Him, could have difficulty with these issues. Sometimes, I do too. I understand that all evil exists because of the fall of man through sin, but it doesn’t make it easier to see pain and suffering of the innocent.  But the LORD tells us in Isaiah 45:18 that “He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos.” Man, by disobeying God and listening to Satan, made and still makes the world a place of empty chaos.  “Sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.” Romans 5:12

However, God is still God. No matter what we think about anything, God is still God.  I have news for this atheist. There is most definitely a God, One True God. No one will be standing in His Holy presence yelling at Him.  No one. The Bible says that, “Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is God.”   Isaiah 45:24 goes on to say that “all who were angry with God will come to Him and be ashamed.”

I grow weary of the arrogance of man. Sometimes I wonder why God doesn’t just shut them up as they speak. But God is a God of patience and mercy. “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9  Still, God is a Holy God and will one day judge the world and do away with wickedness and oppression. Revelation 20, 21

One thing is sure, we will not stand defiantly in the presence of God. Just like Isaiah was sorely ashamed of his sin when he saw God in His holy temple, just like Ezekiel fell on his face before God in his vision and just like John fainted at seeing King Jesus in all His glory, so shall we fall on our faces when we come face to face with God Almighty.
